The Archconfraternity of the Blessed Sacrament and Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the oldest religious associations of Sant’Agnello (NA), founded in 1424. The group was born to promote divine worship, the singing of praises to the Lord, to the Blessed Virgin Mary and to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, as well as works of piety and mercy towards others.

Historical documents indicate the foundation of the brotherhood since the 15th century, with preserved notarial deeds attesting to the existence of the association. Over the centuries, the archconfraternity has seen ecclesiastical approval and recognition for its spiritual importance in the local community.
The charisma of the brotherhood was linked not only to the veneration of the Blessed Sacrament, but also to the devotion to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, making this association central in the context of the Marian and liturgical celebrations of the year.
White Procession of Sant'Agnello
During Holy Week in Sant’Agnello, the Archconfraternity of the SS. Sacrament and Nativity of the Virgin Mary, in particular in the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows which takes place on the night between Good Thursday and Good Friday, with an itinerary that connects the church of the brotherhood to the Parish of Saints Prisco and Agnello.
This tradition reflects the popular devotion towards the Virgin of Sorrows and marks the Easter liturgy with songs and moments of prayer, confirming the historical and cultural importance of the Archconfraternity within the religious life of Santanella.

Even today, the Archconfraternity of SS. Sacrament and Nativity of the Virgin Mary continues to preserve the ancient practices of prayer, worship and participation in processions, making it one of the cornerstones of the confraternal and religious culture of Sant’Agnello.
