La Marinella Spiaggia Sant'Agnello

Among the most fascinating spots along the Sant’Agnello coastline, the Spiaggia della Marinella (Marinella Beach) is one of the most popular destinations for those visiting the town. Located just below the panoramic terrace of the same name, this small stretch of coastline offers a unique experience where nature, tranquility, and the charm of an authentic landscape come together.

Marinella Beach in Sant’Agnello:
history and scenery

The Marinella area has always served as a key point of connection between the town and the sea. In the past, the tuff cliff leading down to the beach was used by farmers and fishermen to reach their boats and transport agricultural products to the coast, where they were shipped.

During the 19th century, with the arrival of the first foreign travelers captivated by the beauty of the Sorrento Peninsula, the area began to gain value not only as a working space but also as a landscape of interest. The terrace above quickly became a popular scenic spot, frequently visited by writers, painters, and intellectuals.

In the 1960s, as seaside tourism grew, the beach became more accessible thanks to the construction of the panoramic elevator, which made it easier for bathers and visitors to reach the shoreline. This transformed Marinella into one of the most iconic coastal destinations in Sant’Agnello.

How to reach the beach from the terrace

The beach can be reached in two ways. The first is via the municipal elevator, which departs from the Marinella terrace and takes visitors directly to the sea level. The second is a scenic footpath carved into the rock, which leads through naturally cool and illuminated caves, offering breathtaking views of the coastline.

Both access points are free of charge and open during the summer season.

Visit the beach

The Marinella bay is enclosed between high tufaceous cliffs and overlooks clear, crystalline waters. The beach offers both free stretches for those who want to relax independently, and lidos equipped with services, umbrellas and bars.

It is the ideal choice for families, couples and travelers looking for clean sea, tranquility and an authentic landscape setting. Despite being easily accessible, the beach retains a private atmosphere, far from mass tourism.

Today the Marinella Beach represents a perfect balance between naturalistic value and historical memory. Its evolution, from a landing point for farmers to a tourist destination appreciated throughout the Sorrento Peninsula, makes it an unmissable stop for those who visit Sant’Agnello in summer.
