The Urban Oasis in Sant’Agnello

L’Oasi in Città a Sant’Agnello

Inaugurated on April 30, 2017, the Urban Oasis of Sant’Agnello is a virtuous example of urban regeneration and environmental sustainability.
This 4,000-square-meter green area was created thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Sant’Agnello and WWF Terra del Tirreno, which transformed the roof of an underground car park — located between Corso Italia and Via M.B. Gargiulo — into a true natural garden right in the heart of the town.

Today, the Oasis is a meeting place for families, children, and sports lovers. It also serves as an environmental education hub, where visitors can experience nature without leaving the city center and enjoy the many community activities organized throughout the year.

Oasis in Sant'Agnello: A Natural Garden with Over 6,000 Plants

The Oasis in Sant’Agnello is home to almost 6,000 plants from around 70 different species, mostly native to the region, representing the diversity of the Mediterranean landscape.
The park is divided into several themed areas, each with its own unique character:

  • The wild meadow

  • The natural hedge

  • The butterfly garden

  • The bio-lake

  • The shaded forest

  • The pine grove

  • The avenue of fruit trees

  • The herbal garden

  • The Mediterranean scrubland

  • The fern corner

  • The citrus grove and agricultural traditions area

  • The flower tunnel and the hazelnut passage

Thanks to this biodiversity, the Oasis has become not only a peaceful green refuge but also an urban habitat that supports butterflies, insects, and birds.

Sports, Leisure and Family-Friendly Spaces

The Urban Oasis of Sant’Agnello is more than a botanical garden — it’s a dynamic, multi-purpose space for the community.
Inside, visitors will find:

  • Sports courts for basketball and volleyball
  • A children’s playground
  • A small outdoor arena for shows and film screenings
  • A cafè-bar surrounded by greenery, perfect for a relaxing break
  • Walking paths and open-air areas for cultural events and performances

Over the years, the Oasis has become a local landmark, hosting school activities, environmental workshops, summer events, and community gatherings, all designed to connect people with nature and promote sustainable living.
